You can go online and review movies, restaurants, running shoes and plumbers. In fact, somewhere on the internet you can review just about anything – although on the web s far fringes few people are likely to read your opinion on the dietary supplement you bought for your constipated parakeet.

However, some sites give you serious reach. Google Maps, for instance, is used by nearly half of all U.S. adults, according to comScore.

On Google Maps, you can review and read reviews of restaurants you search for, and shops.

And cops.

So now you can ask the way to San Jose – and find out what some people think of the police there.

You let the far Left Mayor & Police Chief allow Trump supporters to get attacked and beaten up by the far left Hillary supporters. Shame on you! reviewer Maria Rodriguez snapped in her one-star review of the San Jose Police Department following violence at a rally for presidential candidate Donald Trump downtown in early June.

Now, police departments generate strong opinions, often negative, and not necessarily warranted. The 37 reviews – many laced with racism and littered with spelling errors – concerning San Jose s finest garner a collective 2.6 stars out of five for the force. Reviewer Joe Scaturro helped keep the department out of the review basement with his five-star rating: Very respectful bunch of men and women. Will definitely call on them when needed.

Oakland fares worse than San Jose in the Google Maps arena, with a lowly 1.7 stars from 92 reviews. I called them 2 hrs ago about a car blocking my drive way, reviewer Michael Than complained in his one-star post. They havent came at all and that car been there for 4hrs.

However,  Benjamin Beasley put things in context with his five-star review of the OPD.  These guys showed up right away when i reported a gun fight on my street.

While Los Altos is known more for teeming Teslas than for gunfights in the street, that doesn t mean its denizens don t appreciate their police. The department has three reviews, two with five stars and one with four. A Judy Mulenburg singled out a particular officer in her five-star take on LAPD-north: We had a large tree with a huge branch that developed a visible stress crack. That branch could have fallen on a passerby and caused a lot damage. Officer Darren not only noticed the threatening branch, (who of us looks up scanning for trouble???!) He contacted all the right people to get this safety issue taken care of quickly, efficiently and with a lot of TLC.

Generally, it appears police in smaller cities get fewer – and better – reviews than those in the larger Bay Area metropolises. Oakland PD, for example, has 16 times the number of reviews as Palo Alto s department, but only six times the population number. But with a scarcity of reviews, one downer can have a powerful negative effect on the star metric. From five reviews, Palo Alto police get 3.9 stars, boosted by five stars from Kenny Truong with the comment, Nice staff, but dragged down hard by Ryan Schwinghammer, who used in his one-star report half as many words as Kenny: Garbage.
