Quoted: Tesla CEO Elon Musk delivers Model X — and excellent customer service

“Good to see you. Here’s your key.”

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, during Tuesday night’s handover ceremony at the company’s Fremont plant, to one of a few Model X owners who got to drive away with their long-awaited electric crossover SUVs.

The ceremony was webcast live last night as Musk showed off the Model X — which was unveiled in 2012 and supposed to be delivered in 2013 — to an adoring crowd who came from around the country. And there was cheering and whooping galore as he personally handed the owners their keys. And talk about customer service — he even hugged a couple of them. (Affection from a rock star CEO, all for about $132,000 for the Signature version.)

But as Louis Hansen wrote, there are still 20,000 customers on the waiting list and it’s unclear when they’ll get their vehicles. And the company has yet to announce a price for the base Model X. But Musk hinted at the price Tuesday night in a tweet:

The Model S starts at about $75,000.
