DETROIT (AP) — A spokesman for Detroit’s mayor says prominent graffiti artist Shepard Fairey is expected to turn himself in after being accused of tagging buildings in Detroit.

John Roach tells The Associated Press in an email the city’s law department has been in touch with a representative for Fairey, who faces a warrant for malicious destruction of property. Roach says Fairey is expected to turn himself in Tuesday, but didn’t provide details.

Fairey told the Detroit Free Press after flying to Detroit Monday that he couldn’t discuss the issue.

Last week, a Detroit law department official said Fairey was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport and later released.

Police say about $9,000 in damage was done to other structures while Fairey was in Detroit to complete commissioned works, including a large mural.
