Here, the iPhone.

In St. Paul, Minn., the iPig.

To beat Apple’s iPhone to market, the St. Paul Saints – the independent minor league team owned by Mike Veeck, son of legendary owner/promoter Bill Veeck – on Thursday unveiled the world’s most technologically advanced porcine product.

The souped-up pig, which normally serves as the team’s mascot, “executes all the functions of the new iPhone,” the team said. Plus, we’d say, it’s even more attention-grabbing. Those of you seeking immediate validation from gawkers on the street – and really, what other reason is there for needing to have this phone TODAY, DARN IT – think how much attention you’d get from this.

The Saints planned to sell an actual pig with speakers, a pouch for an iPod shuffle and a phone for the low low price of $299.

“Taking on a major player like Apple is daunting, but our sense is that Apple has exposed a niche that these pigs fill,” a team official says.

Wall Street hasn’t weighed in yet.
