A group of hikers was rescued after becoming stranded on a popular Mt. Tamalpais trail on Sunday, a Marin County sheriff’s lieutenant said today.
The sheriff’s search-and-rescue team responded to a report of about 10 hikers who were stranded on the Cataract Trail near Alpine Lake at about 2:50 p.m., Lt. Doug Pittman said.
Water from the heavy rain had washed out a footbridge that the hikers needed to use to get off the mountain, Pittman said.
Rescuers were able to safely assist the group off the mountain by Sunday evening, he said.
Pittman said the stranded party was initially part of a group of about 20 hikers who got stuck, but the other 10 took a different route to get out.
