A man fishing from his kayak encountered a shark in the water off Linda Mar State Beach Tuesday at about 5 p.m, Pacifica police reported.
The shark attacked his kayak and then briefly circled around the boat before swimming away. The kayaker returned to shore unharmed.
The attack occurred outside the area where surfers and swimmers frequent. As a precaution, however, Pacifica Public Works Departmetn will post signs at the beach warning the public about what happened.
The beach will continue to be monitored.
