Two local nonprofits have seen an outpouring of community donations honoring Sophie Belknap, 19, who died Dec. 28 in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 85. Her family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to sent to EMQ Children & Family Services and Humane Society Silicon Valley, where the Lincoln High School graduate volunteered.

“There has been an incredible outpouring of gifts from the community,” said Stephanie Ladeira, vice president of development for the Humane Society.

As of Jan. 8, the Humane Society Silicon Valley received 19 gifts totaling $790 in Belknap’s name.

Belknap, whose family resides in Willow Glen, attended Willow Glen Middle School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 2007.
