BRUSSELS — Tim Ball, former visuals editor for Bay Area News Group, on Tuesday found himself in the middle of the chaos surrounding terrorist bombings in Brussels.

Ball, who six months ago moved to the city to become creative director at POLITICO Europe, learned about the first attack at Zaventem airport through social media, then rushed to catch a train to work. It wasn’t long before he heard a bomb go off at the Maelbeek train station.

In a blog written for Medium.com after the blasts, Ball tells a moving, personal account from the scene, as a journalist and a new resident of a city suddenly under attack.
