An airplane with two occupants crashed in a Sonoma County vineyard as a result of an engine failure Thursday, according to sheriff’s deputies.
At 11:55 a.m. the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an airplane that had crashed in a vineyard near the 1500 block of W. Dry Creek Road in unincorporated Sonoma County, just outside Healdsburg, deputies said.
Sheriff’s deputies and medical personnel responded to the accident, located the aircraft and the two occupants in a field.
The pilot said the plane had an engine failure during his flight to Sonoma County Airport and he was unable to restart the engine, deputies said.
The pilot executed an emergency landing in a vacant field. The airplane touched down and the front landing gear collapsed at impact, causing the plane to nose dive into the ground.
The pilot suffered a bloody nose, but neither occupant suffered further injuries, deputies said.
