Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer expecting twins

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is pregnant with identical twin girls, she said Monday night.

She and husband Zachary Bogue expect their daughters to arrive in December. Their first child, a son, was born in September 2012, shortly after Mayer took the helm of the Sunnyvale company.

“Since my pregnancy has been healthy and uncomplicated and since this is a unique time in Yahoo’s transformation, I plan to approach the pregnancy and delivery as I did with my son three years ago, taking limited time away and working throughout,” Mayer wrote in a Tumblr post Monday night. “I’ve shared the news and my plans with Yahoo’s Board of Directors and my executive team, and they are incredibly supportive and happy for me.”

The “unique time” she mentions is likely a reference to the spinning off of Yahoo’s huge stake in Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, which is scheduled to happen around the end of the year.

“Moving forward, there will be a lot to do for both my family and for Yahoo,” she wrote on Tumblr. “Both will require hard work and thoughtful prioritization.”

Update: Is this progress? Check out what tech columnist Michelle Quinn thinks about Mayer’s announcement.

The news came exactly a month after another Silicon Valley CEO, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, revealed on his social network that he and his wife Priscilla Chan are expecting a baby girl.
