Facebook has yet another option for people who want to message their friends.

The social networking company on Wednesday launched a web version of Messenger, allowing its users to log into their Facebook account and send messages on a web browser.

Facebook users can already send messages on the social network s main website or on their cell phones by downloading the Messenger app, which currently has more than 600 million users every month and was launched in 2011.

The web version of Messenger, which has a similar design to the company s app, allows people to send messages to their friends without the distraction of other items such as ads, links, statuses and photos, that pop up on their Facebook Newsfeed.

Facebook has been making some bigger bets on Messenger as it tries to grow the number of people who use the service.

Company executives announced during the annual F8 conference in March that it was opening up Messenger to developers, allowing them to integrate their apps into Messenger and creating a tool that would make online shopping easier.

An email to Facebook was not immediately returned on Wednesday.
