We re all heading to creepy. We all know that.

Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.com, talking about all the data tech companies and gadget makers have about us. His comment came during a talk to marketing executives at Fortune s Brainstorm Dinner at the Consumer Electronics Show this week, during which he professed his love for (Salesforce customer) Fitbit, which makes wristbands that track physical activity, heart rate, sleep, friends and location.

On a related note, also at CES, Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Edith Ramirez on Tuesday urged tech companies pushing constant connectedness and the Internet of Things to be mindful of privacy and security. Ramirez called on companies to give consumers control over how their data is used, and to collect only information that they need.

I question the notion that we must put sensitive consumer data at risk on the off chance a company might someday discover a valuable use for the information, Ramirez said. An FTC spokesman said a commission report on the Internet of Things is coming in the next few weeks, according to the New York Times.
