Bill Gates again plays Secret Santa, and Google and NORAD join the Christmas fun

For the second year in a row, Bill Gates surprised one lucky recipient in Reddit’s annual Secret Santa gift exchange.

A 25-year-old Redditor with the handle Calid7 write an excited post last week after receiving a Loki helmet (from the “Thor” movie), a coffee-table book of African photos, a polio virus stuffed animal and a donation in her name to Shot@Life, a program that provides free vaccinations to children.

“I can not believe it. I am literally shaking right now,” she wrote.

Last year, Gates gave another coffee-table book and donated a cow to Heifer International as part of the Reddit exchange.

Continuing the Christmas theme:

— Want to see the famously elaborate Christmas window displays at Macy’s but don’t feel like braving the crowds? (Or traveling to New York?) Google’s got you covered.

Google Maps has added a feature to Business View — a Street View extension — that shows a handful of famous retailers’ holiday window displays, including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, and Liberty and Selfridges in London.

— And for those who want to keep tabs on Santa Claus’ whereabouts, NORAD’s official Santa Tracker is counting down the minutes until it goes live on Christmas Eve. Besides the live tracker, the site has videos and games, and offers kids a digital peek at Santa’s North Pole village. The North American Aerospace Defense Command is tracking Santa for the 59th year, and says its network of satellites can track the flying sleigh by the heat signature given by Rudolph’s shiny nose. (Well, that explains that.)
