It s official, we re in the future – sort of.
Hendo Hover, a Los-Gatos based company, has launched a Kickstarter to fund the world s first production hoverboard.
A hoverboard being the holy grail of personal transportation since the device made its debut in the 1989 sci-fi classic Back to the Future Part II, where Michael J. Fox s character, Marty McFly, travels from 1985 to 2015 in a flying DeLorean.
But hold on, McFly.
As of now the board is only a proof of concept that hovers an inch off the special metal flooring.
To get your hands on the real thing, the company says backers who donate $10,000 will need to wait until October 21, 2015 — which is the day Marty McFly arrives in the future.
For developers interested in the technology, the company is also offering their Whitebox developer kit that houses a smaller hover engine that will run for 12 to 15 minutes on a two-hour battery charge.
