Serial corporate acquirer Cisco Systems said Wednesday it plans to buy privately held Metacloud of Pasadena, which helps set up Internet-based or cloud services for other companies.

San Jose-based Cisco — which is known for its computer networking and communications equipment — didn t disclose a price for Metacloud. But it said it expects the deal to be completed in the first quarter of its 2015 fiscal year.

Cisco noted in a press release that it is pushing to develop the world s largest global Intercloud, a network of Internet services that can store everything from a company s data to information generated by the billions of smart gadgets being developed for the so-called Internet of Things.
