Quoted: Martha Stewart’s ode to drones

“Drones can be useful tools, and I am all about useful tools.”

Martha Stewart, drone-loving domestic doyenne. Stewart says she has used her drone — a Parrot AR Drone 2.0 — to take photos of her “properties, a party, a hike in the mountains, and a day at the beach.” Stewart does acknowledge that all kinds of social, ethical and other issues surround the use of drones. But hey, it’s really and truly useful for taking photos: “One of my farm workers used his drone… to capture amazing images of my 153-acre farm in Bedford, New York.” (That’s not satire, but there is a satirical New Yorker piece called “Martha Stewart Explains Her Drone.”)

In other drone news, more than a dozen other companies besides Amazon (which wants to test delivery drones) have asked the FCC’s permission to fly commercial drones. They reportedly include Sunnyvale-based Trimble Navigation, and Yamaha Motor.
