The Golden State Warriors weren’t the only ones with a come-from-behind victory on Tuesday night. Silicon Valley Gives brought in nearly $2 million in the final 90 minutes of the 24-hour crowdfunding campaign to finish with $7.8 million for Bay Area nonprofits.

That total comes very close to the $8 million reported by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation the past two years, and it could continue to grow. Donations to nonprofits were still coming in Wednesday morning, despite the end of the official Day of Giving for charities in Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Benito and San Francisco counties.

Breaking down the numbers, educational causes led the pack with about $1.1 million raised, followed by humanitarian-related nonprofits with $413,018 and children’s causes with $397,916, as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.

As it did last year, Burlingame Community for Education, which supports TK-8th grade schools in the Burlingame School District, was again the biggest fundraiser, with $285,000 raised from more than 600 donors. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation held the first Silicon Valley Gives campaign in 2014 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the nation’s first community foundation.
