Weekend Update anchor Micheal Che dropped an F-bomb on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend during a routine about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
“I don’t understand this,” Che said. “If the national anthem was so important, how did they even know someone was kneeling? That’s how boring the national anthem is. Halfway through, you’re looking around the stadium like, ‘I wonder what the backup quarterback for the 49ers is up to?’
“It’s mostly white guys that are upset,” Che said. “And I can understand why white guys love the national anthem so much, because this country’s always been great for white guys. You absolutely should defend the national anthem. If I was white, I’d always defend the national anthem.
“I expect white guys to defend the national anthem, like I expected Phylicia Rashad to defend Bill Cosby,” he continued. “I’m sure when people were protesting ‘The Cosby Show,’ Clair Huxtable was like, ‘I don’t know what he did to y’all, but (N-bomb) made me rich!’”
Just to clarify: Che is black and the word ended with an “a.” Which, to some people, makes it OK.
According to Hollywood Life, the word has been uttered on the show before. Che’s castmate Sasheer Zamata said it during season 41, also on Weekend Update. Kayne West used it during the same season while performing. And Will Ferrell used it while impersonating Robert Goulet in 2000.
Robert Goulet was very gangsta, by the way.
The sketch prompted lots and lots of people to take to social media to express their shock, and support, of Che’s usage.
