Rose McGowan may be right to suggest that police at the Washington Dulles International Airport having a curious sense of timing.

In recent weeks, the actress has become headline news as one of the most fierce and outspoken opponents of Harvey Weinstein and other alleged sexual predators and enablers in Hollywood.

But on Monday, she made headlines for another reason: a nearly year-old drug possession allegation.

The Associated Press reported that an arrest warrant had been issued for McGowan, alleging felony possession of a controlled substance.

The charge goes back to a police investigation of personal belongings left behind on a United flight that arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport on Jan. 20.

Police say the items tested positive for narcotics. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department obtained the warrant on Feb. 1.

McGowan’s response was characteristically combative. She took to Twitter to imply that the timing was suspicious — especially now given her high profile and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault.

“Are they trying to silence me? There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia,” McGowan tweeted Monday afternoon. She also called the allegation a load of horse feces.

Apparently, police say they have attempted to contact McGowan so she can appear in a Loudoun County, Virginia, court.

The actress recently accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her in a hotel room during the Sundance Film Festival in 1997, an assault she had hinted at frequently but only confirmed earlier this month as more than 80 women have come forward with similar stories about the once powerful independent film producer.

McGowan has also been swift in going after male friends and professional collaborators of Weinstein, like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who have claimed that they had no knowledge of Weinstein’s offenses.  In fact, McGowan called her one-time costar Affleck “a liar” because she claims he knew that Weinstein had assaulted her.

McGowan also was on the front page of the New York Times Sunday, saying that, through a lawyer, “someone close to Mr. Weinstein,” offered her $1 million if she signed a nondisclosure agreement and agreed to not talk publicly about her case against him.
