Branson by sea

He may have arrived by air and not by sea, but Richard Branson will get the hang of this sailing business soon.

Last month, the founder of Virgin Atlantic airline hopped off a helicopter in Miami to announce that his new venture, Virgin Cruises, will set sail for the first time in 2020. Initial plans call for seven-day Caribbean cruises from the Port of Miami, The Associated Press reported.

He was quoted as saying that the company would aim to provide customers — especially a younger demographic new to cruising — an “intimate” and “Virgin-like” experience.

When asked about the destination just 333 miles south of Miami, he said he would consider cruises to Cuba.

“I think it’s a fantastic country,” he said. “I know some people in Miami disagree, and some people agree with the opening up of Cuba, but I’d love our cruise ship to go to Cuba.”
