A downed power line in Redwood City cut electricity to about 1,900 customers Wednesday afternoon, utilities officials said.

The outage, which started at about 4:22 p.m., spanned an area near Middlefield Road from Dumbarton Avenue to Chestnut Street and another area west of Middlefield Road to Oakwood Boulevard, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokesman Joe Molica said. About 1,900 customers were affected, though by about 5:30 p.m., power had been restored to 1,800 customers, he said.

PG&E crews were working overnight to restore power to the remaining 102 customers, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said. Power was expected to be restored by 4 a.m. today, she said.

A downed wire was the apparent cause of the outage, and utility crews were working to replace several lengths of overhead electrical wire as well as supporting equipment, Morris said.
