HAYWARD — A Hayward man is dead and another man was in critical condition Tuesday following a double shooting at Palma Ceia Park in the city’s Glen Eden neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded at 7 p.m. Monday to the park off Decatur Way after reports of shots fired and found two men in their 20s with gunshot wounds on the ground just south of Miami Avenue, Sgt. Mark Ormsby said.

One of the men, who was laying between the park bathroom and the street, had been shot in the upper body. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The other man, who police said is a Stockton resident formerly from Hayward, was found near the driver-side door of his black Cadillac, which was parked on the street. That man, who had also been shot in the upper body, was semi-responsive and taken to Eden Medical Center in critical condition, Ormsby said.

He was later transported to Stanford Medical Center to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

Police did not identify either man and were waiting for autopsy results from the Alameda County Coroner’s Office before they notify the dead man’s next of kin.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday.
