Apparently, running a tech firm doesn t make you immune from getting your social media account hacked.
On Wednesday, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe was the latest tech mogul to get his Twitter account hacked. The hacker who took over Iribe s Twitter account announced a new chief executive for the Facebook-owned virtual reality company.
The hacker doesn t appear to be from the same group that took over the social media accounts of other Silicon Valley tech CEOs, TechCrunch reported.
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and even the former CEO of Twitter Dick Costolo recently had their Twitter accounts compromised.
The hacker told TechCrunch in a direct message on Twitter that he was able to access Iribe s account because of a recent Myspace security breach.
Twitter, which addressed the recent hacks in June, recommends enabling a login verification, using a strong password that you don t reuse for other websites and using a password manager to keep your social media account safe.
A website called Have I Been Pwned? also allows people to plug in their email or username to see if their account has been compromised in a data breach.
