The boot got the boot, the wheelbarrow got wheeled out, and the thimble is no more.
But Monopoly got a T-rex. And a penguin and rubber ducky for the T-rex to chase.
The classic game has new pieces, after getting votes from 4.3 million voters from 146 countries concerning what kind of new pieces players wanted, Hasbro announced Friday.
I would’ve voted for a Donald Trump wig.
Jonathan Berkowitz, Hasbro’s senior vice president of marketing, said “While I’m sad to see the iconic thimble, boot, and wheelbarrow tokens go, it will be fun to have some new, fan-sourced tokens in the mix. Personally, I’ve always especially liked the boot token, but I’m excited to move onto the T. rex.”
It’s about time monopoly got itself a giant carnivorous lizard.
It keeps the Scottish terrier, the car, the battleship, top hat, and cat.
According to the Chicago Tribune, among the finalists were a tortoise, cell phone, a pair of bunny slippers, a winking emoji, and a hashtag.
Two of those things aren’t even real.
The new version goes out to the world in the fall. Monopoly has been around since 1935. The original game pieces were a lantern, race car, thimble, top hat, iron, purse, lantern, battleship, cannon, and a rocking horse.
