BRENTWOOD — Although Brentwood is locally famous for its produce, schools, parks and other amenities, local leaders are hoping to use the city’s various treasures to promote tourism through a new marketing campaign. The upcoming Explore Brentwood campaign will promote that everything is “Better in Brentwood,” according to its tagline. It will focus on the areas of shopping, dining, living, exploring and playing.
“We are going to brand the city,” Brentwood Mayor Bob Taylor said. “We want to get away from just promoting agriculture. The schools are better in Brentwood, the streets are better in Brentwood and everything is better in Brentwood.”
Brentwood Senior Technician Peggy Berglund noted that the two-year campaign is aimed at promoting tourism through the city’s popular trails, U-pick produce stands, the nearby Delta and Los Vaqueros Watershed. “We hope to capture a more diverse audience for tourism,” she said. “Once we get them here for the amenities, we would like to have them shop and dine here.”
The marketing push will include advertising in travel publications like Sunset and Via magazines, selling items like T-shirts and wine glasses with the campaign’s logo, launching a web site and installing banners around the city’s main arterials and entrances.
“I wore the shirt to the farmers market and a lot of people like the shirt,” Taylor said.
“We want to sell the shirts, wine glasses and coffee mugs. You could sell the stuff for the holidays in gift baskets.”
A previous marketing campaign in Brentwood a few years ago focused solely on shopping locally.
According to Berglund, this new type of campaign has been proven to have results in other communities.
“Something like this is not new. It has been done all over the place,” Berglund said.
“We want to reach people further away. The reason we are choosing ‘Better in Brentwood’ is the flexibility of usage for that tag.”
