President Trump and the GOP want $20 billion to begin construction of a wall between Mexico and the United States. To put this cost in perspective, the annual budget of the National Institutes of Health is $36 billion. The NIH carries out the majority of the publicly funded research into cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and heart disease. Imagine what gains we might make against these diseases with an extra $20 billion in funding?
Speaking for myself, I’d rather see us cure cancer than build an edifice to Trump’s ego.
