HAYWARD — Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire that broke out in a kitchen Tuesday morning on the 1100 block of Denton Avenue in the Mt. Eden neighborhood.

According to fire Capt. Thor Poulsen, the residents were cooking on the stove when a fire broke out shortly after 9 a.m. They tried to put it out, but it spread to the cabinets and they called for help.

Firefighters arrived minutes after they were summoned at 9:11 a.m. and put it out by 9:28 a.m. They stopped it from spreading throughout the two-story house, Poulsen said, but the kitchen is a “total loss.”

“We pulled the cabinets and pulled the ceiling back to look for any hidden fires, but didn’t find any,” Poulsen said. “It was pretty cut and dry.”

No one was injured, Pousen said.
