Kermit the Frog is denying reports that he has a new girlfriend.
People magazine says that the plush amphibian has wasted no time in finding a new honey after breaking up with his Miss Piggy, his longtime squeeze, a month ago.
His new paramour is apparently another pretty porcine named Denise, People says, and she’s a marketer for ABC, which happens to be producing Kermit and Miss Piggy’s new “The Muppets” TV show, according to People.
So it appears the Muppets are doing what most celebrities do these days when they are promoting a new movie, TV show or film. They allow sometimes scandalous rumors to leak about their private lives and take to social media to deny said rumors.
So, that’s what Kermit did. He took to Twitter to deny the People report and update fans on his relationship status:
“While I prefer to keep my personal life private, this is Hollywood, so who am I kidding? It is true that I am dating again. However, at this time no one woman — pig or otherwise — is my official ‘new girlfriend.’ We are simply close friends.”
As for Miss Piggy? She could be sinking to Kardashian-level depths in trying to attract social media attention. She’s carrying on an open Twitter flirtation with William “Captain Kirk” Shatner.
When the Shat tweeted to ask about her availability, she replied: “Very much available, mon cher. Gimme a call! I’d love to boldly go where no pig has gone before.”
