KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A person familiar with the deal says All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon has agreed to a four-year contract to remain with the World Series champion Kansas City Royals.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the team had not announced the deal. MLB.com was first to report the deal, expected to be worth $72 million.
Gordon was the second overall pick of the Royals in 2005, and went through years of growing pains before finally becoming a star. He’s become not only one of the best defensive outfielders in the game with four Gold Gloves to his resume, but also a consistent hitter and clubhouse leader. He was a big reason why the Royals won their first World Series since 1985 last season.
