John Thompson Jr. always had a way with pointed barbs back when he was the head coach at Georgetown, and now that John Thompson III is the man in charge, that hasn’t changed.
The man the coach calls “Pops” crashed his son’s press conference following Tuesday’s Hoya in over Creighton to issue his judgment on the game’s officiating.
“The last two games have been terrible,” the Casual Hoya reported. “You can tell the commissioner and everybody else in the Big East I said that.”
That outburst followed a game in which the Hoyas were whistled for 27 fouls one game after Georgetown had another 27 calls go against them.
John Thompson III was somewhat more diplomatic, saying “during the course of the game we have to adjust to the officiating. Sometimes it’s more difficult than others to adjust to how they’re calling the game, and tonight was one of those nights.”
Big East assistant commissioner John Paquette declined comment.
Perhaps John Thompson III wishes “Pops” would have done the same.
