The stepfather of 2012 U.S. figure skating champion Jeremy Abbott can’t wait to leave O’Connor Hospital in San Jose to return home.

“I’m anxious to get back on the road,” Allen Scott said Monday, a day after collapsing during Abbott’s gold-medal performance at HP Pavilion.

Scott, 64, declined to discuss his medical condition other than to say he was fine. Scott was waiting to hear from physicians Monday night on when he might get released.

“What is important is I am doing well,” said the host of a Saturday morning jazz show in Denver. “The real story is Jeremy Abbott. I’m just a hiccup.”

Abbott won his third U.S. crown despite the tumult in the stands when Allen briefly blacked out.

Abbott, 26, was unaware of the situation until well after his magnificent performance that concluded the weeklong championships in San Jose.

Scott plans to watch his stepson compete next month at the prestigious Four Continent Championships in their hometown of Colorado Springs, Colo.

“It has been a pure joy following him around the world,” he said.
