Ixys won reversal of a $6.2 million patent-infringement verdict obtained by rival microchip maker International Rectifier over devices that regulate the electricity supply in computers.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Monday reversed a finding that Ixys infringed on three International Rectifier patents. The court also threw out the damage award, and an order that Ixys stop using the patented technology.

The 7-year-old dispute is over metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistors, which regulate electricity supply. The patents relate to how the transistors are made.

Officials at El Segundo-based International Rectifier didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.

Ixys rose 25 cents, or 3.5 percent, to $7.33 in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading. The shares have fallen 17 percent in the past year.
