Dog licenses are required under state law and say that the animal has been vaccinated for rabies. License renewals are required every three years for adult dogs.

While the licenses are only given to Piedmont residents, those living inside and outside of Piedmont also can get an off-leash permit that allows them to bring their dogs off-leash to four of the city’s parks.

Dogs with those permits are allowed off-leash in the Piedmont Park creek area, the Dracena Park pathway and anywhere at Blair Park. Piedmont animal services officer London Rivera recommends that dog owners get computer chip implants for their animals. If the animal is lost and the tags come off, the officers can look up the serial number with a microchip reader. “It’s a great way to help us get your animal home,” she said.
