Google announced a new plug-in-hybrid-car initiative Monday aimed at reducing greenhouse gases by changing the vehicles people drive. The Mountain View Internet giant launched the www.rechargeit .org Web site and said it was buying six converted plug-in cars, among other news. And – for you inventors and start-ups – Google plans to invest $10 million in technologies and companies that feature plug-in and fully electric vehicles.

“It would be really nice to not have the inconvenience of having to go to the gas station,” Google co-founder Sergey Brin said.
