Back so soon, Google Glass?
Italian eyewear maker Luxottica CEO Massimo Vian said Friday at a company meeting that it is working on a new version of the Internet-connected specs, according to the Wall Street Journal — and that it s coming out soon.
Google stopped selling Glass to consumers in January, saying that it would continue to build for the future. Google s move came after the $1,500 gadget became one of the most well-known but far from widely adopted wearables to hit the market, and was coveted/ridiculed/feared/banned for a multitude of reasons.
Matt O Brien reported in January that the Google Glass team would be moved out of the Google X research lab and be overseen by Tony Faddell, co-founder and CEO of Google-owned Nest Labs. And Luxottica, which makes the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, told Matt then that its partnership with Google would continue. The WSJ notes that Vian was recently in California to meet with the Google Glass team.
So what exactly does coming out soon mean? There s been talk that Faddell would not release something until it s perfect.
In an email to SiliconBeat today, a Google representative said the team is heads down building the future of the product and we re not commenting on rumor or speculation.
