PINOLE — A woman’s subscription to an identity-theft protection service paid off when it helped investigators find two men suspected of rifling through her car while it was parked at a shopping center, police said.

Police were called to the parking lot of the Burlington Coat Factory on Fitzgerald Drive about 1:15 p.m. Saturday and spoke to a woman who reported her Honda had been burglarized.

She told police that thieves took several items including a credit card that was covered by Life Lock, a third-party identity-theft protection service. Shortly after the reported burglary the victim was contacted by her credit-card company and told her card was being used in Hercules.

Police went to the business identified by the company and arrested two men who tried to flee upon spotting officers. Juan Torres Rodriguez, 36 of Hercules, and 31-year-old San Pablo resident Francisco Torres Rodriguez were later identified by witnesses as the men seen breaking into the victim’s car.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can contact Cmdr. Matthew Messier at 510-724-8955.
