The crème de la crème of textile craftsmanship from around the world is coming to the South Bay. Starting Nov. 6, the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles will present “Fiberart International 2013,” the 21st edition of this triennial juried exhibition. It will be the West Coast premiere of this acclaimed event, sponsored by the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, which showcases the latest innovations in fiber ingenuity. The show runs through Jan. 19 at the museum, 520 S. First St., San Jose.

There will be 42 works from 37 artists, both domestic and international, renowned and new to the scene. The Bay Area will be represented with works by Joan Schulze, Marie Bergstedt, Roslyn Ritter and Stephanie Metz. Show highlights Margaret Scott’s Her Hair Grows, recipient of the international award; best in show winner A Laughing House by Naoe Okamoto; and the grand-scale Triptych with 206,720 Beads, an installation by Samantha Fields.

Also opening Nov. 6 at the Museum of Quilts & Textiles is “Translucence: Cathy Breslaw.” The Southern California artist works with a Shanghai-sourced industrial mesh material that she manipulates to create abstract hangings. Breslaw’s exhibit consists of wall hangings of various sizes that speak to the momentary nature of light and movement.

Admission is $8 general, $6.50 students and seniors, free to children under 13. “Pay what you can” on the first Friday of each month. For more information: 408.971.0323 or sjquiltmuseum.org.
