Still should’ve picked him

Kicking ourselves over why we didn’t take Adrian Peterson earlier, or at all, in our fantasy football draft, we were reminded Monday.

Peterson’s torn knee ligament will keep him out of at least Sunday’s game against the Raiders, and it flashed us back to the seasons he couldn’t finish at Oklahoma, and no we don’t really feel very much better about passing on him even now.

• Then again, what do we know. Reader Mark Spencer had this observation:

“Twice this fall I read ‘Sit McNabb’ in the FFL advice part of your column. Week 3 – when he got four TDs – I listened to you and learned the hard way. Week 10 – when he got 4 TDs – I ignored your advice and won handily with my Philly QB. Please print this advice again in Weeks 14-17, so I can win my FFL title!”

Glad we could help.

Angry hockey fans unite

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will host a weekly show on XM Satellite radio, streamed on NHL.com as well, beginning Nov. 27. This is awesome for the league because, like Howard Stern, Bettman has clearly been held back by the inability to drop F-bombs on FCC-governed outlets. You feel us on this?

Listeners are invited to “submit questions via phone and e-mail,” which seems somehow different from direct call-in interaction. It’ll be interesting to see how close the NHL lets its unpopular boss get to its angrier fans.

FireBettman.com writes, “We are the greatest fans in sports, and Mr. Bettman is going to regret the fact that he ever opened himself up to such direct criticism. . . . Come on fans, stick it to the man and give him a little dose of reality!!!”
