Counterfeit $20 bills were recently passed on the Island, which is prompting Alameda police to remind merchants and others to be on the lookout for the fake notes.
One counterfeit $20 bill was passed Aug. 21 in the 1700 block of Park Street, while a second was passed two days later in the 2600 block of Blanding Avenue.
Along with using a pen to detect counterfeit bills, police say merchants should look for a watermark to determine if a note is genuine.
