FREMONT — Two ex-convicts and a woman suspected of driving the stolen getaway car, have been identified as the three people arrested and charged in the Oct. 21 robbery of the Provident Credit Union, according to authorities and court records.
Bryan Colston 30, of Oakland, who besides robbery, has three other felony convictions, Damario Crawford, 32, of Oakland and Larishia Kilgore, 27, of El Cerrito are the three people charged in the robbery, which happened about 5:31 p.m. Oct. 21 at the credit union in the Fremont Hub Shopping Center, authorities said.
Colston has been charged with second-degree robbery and resisting arrest. Police said he had a pending felon in possession of a firearm case in Pleasant Hill at the time of the robbery.
Crawford, who has a 2013 felony assault with a firearm conviction that he went to prison for, has been charged with second degree robbery. Kilgore, who authorities said drove the getaway car, a stolen 1996 Honda Accord, was charged with second-degree robbery, evading an officer with willful disregard for public safety and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle.
Crawford later admitted his involvement in the robbery, telling police he needed money, according to court documents. Colston and Kilgore declined to talk to police.
Colston is being held in lieu of $130,000 bail and Crawford in lieu of $125,000 bail. Kilgore is being held in lieu of $280,000 bail. All three have pleaded not guilty and are due in court Nov. 14 for a pre-trial hearing.
According to court documents, Colston and Crawford entered the credit union together and as Crawford stood look-out, Colston approached a teller and presented a note demanding money. After being told the teller had no cash he went to another teller and took $500 in cash, according to court records.
As this was happening Fremont police received alarm activations and a 911 call from the business with the caller giving descriptions of the suspects and what clothes they were wearing. Police were also told the men had fled in a car driven by another person.
The Honda was spotted on Mowry Avenue near Interstate 880 by Fremont police Sgt. Joshua Ehling who was driving a marked police car. He pursued it onto the freeway and was joined by California Highway Patrol officers. During the pursuit the sergeant did a “pursuit intervention technique” (PIT) on the suspects’ car causing it to turn around and collide with the sergeant’s car before it continued to drive northbound on the freeway, according to court documents.
The pursuit ended when the suspects’ car collided with a civilian vehicle and crashed into the center divider south of Whipple Road. Colston ran from the vehicle but was quickly arrested on the freeway after fighting with officers. Crawford and Kilgore remained in the vehicle and were arrested.
According to court documents the stolen money was found in Colston’s pocket. The demand note was found in the car.
The car the suspects were in turned out to have been stolen Oct. 16 in Hayward, court documents say. Kilgore was on probation for vehicle theft and had an arrest warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle, authorities said.
Besides a 2013 robbery conviction that he was put on probation for, Colston also has a 2014 possession of a firearm by a felon and a 2016 possession of a controlled substance with a firearm convictions that he received prison terms for. He also has a 2008 conviction for carrying a loaded unregistered firearm that he was placed on probation for.
