“Echo Generation” isn’t subtle with its influences. The upcoming turn-based adventure game from Cococucumber screams them from the rooftops. Players can see a little “Stranger Things” in the style along with 80s movies such “The Monster Squad”, “The Goonies” and “The Gate.”

It looks like a project steeped in nostalgia, and players have a chance to check it out in a limited-time demo that is live from Dec. 8 to Dec. 15. Similar to those classic flicks, players control a gang of kids “investigating supernatural occurrences” to save their small Canadian town.

The demo Lets players control a brother-sister duo, and it shows off some of the turn-based combat against trash pandas, giants rats and mechs. Augmenting the combat are quick-time events and minigames that influence defense, critical hits and combos. It sounds a little but like what Nintendo does it with its “Paper Mario” series, but the setting and look are completely different.

“Echo Generation” featurex voxel-based art that stands out as the game runs in 4K at 60 frames per second.
