MARTINEZ — Two men have been charged with second-degree burglary after authorities said they took more than $65,000 worth of gold jewelry from a Walnut Creek department store last week.

Authorities said Richard Lange, of Richmond, and Christopher Dopp, a transient, also have been charged with grand theft of personal property, and vandalism causing more than $400 damage following the early morning burglary Jan. 24 at the Macy’s in Broadway Plaza.

The charges against Lane also include the special allegation of having two prior offenses and the special allegation of having a prior serious and violent felony, authorities said.

Lange and Dopp are accused of smashing display cases on the first floor of the store and grabbing the gold jewelry, authorities said. The two were spotted by employees inside the store and fled, authorities said.

Ultimately, authorities valued the damage to the store at than $80,000.

Lange and Dopp posted bail and were not in custody Thursday.
