Three San Jose residents charged Monday in one of the largest methamphetamine busts in U.S. history are tied to a Mexican drug trafficking organization, said officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Defendants, Alberto Rodriguez, Carlos Aguilar, and Liliana Lopez, appeared in Santa Clara County Superior Court for the first time Monday as a judge set bail at $2 million each.
Authorities charged the trio in connection with Thursday’s discovery at The Woods apartments off Snell Avenue in South San Jose, where they found at least 750 pounds of meth with a street value of more than $34 million. Palo Alto police stumbled upon the drugs after looking for a stolen iPad at the apartment.
Rodriguez, Aguilar and Lopez are charged with conspiracy to transport a controlled substance, manufacturing the drugs, possession for sale of the drugs and child endangerment. They face enhancements both for alleged gang activity and because the quantity of drugs was so high. No further information was released
The defendants will return to court March 13.
