Johnny Acfalle, a UPS employee, helps one of the children at Estrella Family Services participate in a trike-a-thon June 17 as part of the third annual United Way of Silicon Valley Day of Action. Acfalle was one of 400 corporate volunteers who participated in events working at 30 different sites throughout the valley. The sites are all dedicated to working with young children to prepare them for success by helping them get ready to learn by the time they enter kindergarten. Volunteers at the Estrella Family Services set up an obstacle course to help youngsters with their coordination and to teach them about bike safety. Studies show a high correlation between a child’s readiness to learn when they start kindergarten and success throughout their school career.
