Due to the extremely hot temperatures anticipated over the next few days, Concord is opening some facilities as cooling centers where air conditioning and comfortable seating is available.
Cooling centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following days and locations:
- Thursday, Aug. 31, Willow Pass Center, 2748 E. Olivera Road
- Friday, Sept. 1 and Tuesday, Sept. 5, Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road
- Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2-3, Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle
- Monday, Sept. 4, Concord Police Department, 1350 Galindo St.
The Meadow Homes Spray Park hours will be extended Thursday through Monday and will operate from noon to 7:30 p.m. The park is located at 1351 Detroit Ave.
Concord Community Pool, at 3501 Cowell Road, will be open for recreational swimming from 12:30 to 5 p.m.Saturday through Monday.
Residents can also beat the heat in Concord at Sunvalley mall, Brenden Theatre, Waterworld, as well as air conditioned businesses.
The county health department reminds residents to stay hydrated, and note that even young and healthy individuals can suffer ill effects if they participate in strenuous physical activities during hot weather. For more information, visit http://cchealth.org/heat/
