SAN FRANCISCO — Concert-goers at the Chase Center may benefit from the San Francisco Giants’ recent struggles.
Attendance at Oracle Park dropped to a nine-year low on Monday as the Giants announced that a paid crowd of 26,826 fans took in the team’s 6-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The number of fans who actually showed up and used their tickets was significantly lower.
This may be good news for people planning to attend concerts at the newly-opened Chase Center this week. For the first time since the Golden State Warriors’ new arena opened, there will be concurrent events at Oracle Park and Chase Center this week.
There are four conflicts over the next five nights as the Giants will host evening games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday that will coincide with concerts.
The Giants, the Warriors and Chase Center staff are urging attendees of games and concerts to take public transportation to events. The Giants are asking fans to arrive early for games that conflict with concerts and if possible, to park north of Oracle Park.
The Dave Matthews Band will take the stage at the Chase Center on Tuesday, followed by Eric Clapton on Wednesday, Elton John on Friday and Chance the Rapper on Saturday.
Bon Iver will play at the Chase Center Thursday, but the Giants will host the Pirates in a matinee matchup at 12:45.
Attendance at Giants games may fluctuate slightly throughout the week, but it’s unlikely crowds will be considerably larger when the club hosts the Miami Marlins this weekend.
