As of Wednesday morning, the massive Caldor Fire has already burned about 204,390 acres. This animated map shows the progression after the fire’s inception at about 20 miles southeast of Placerville on August 14.

The fire has traveled almost 40 miles in a little over two weeks, destroying hundreds of structures and damaging the Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort and posing a threat to the Kirkwood ski resort. It is now just three miles from the city limits of South Lake Tahoe after burning in the Meyers and Christmas Valley areas.

The fire triggered mandatory evacuations in the Tahoe Basin including parts of Nevada. The blaze is only 20% contained.
