Microsoft's Zune, and conflicts in Silicon Valley

zune.jpg
Om has good post on the conflicts posed by Microsoft's plans for its new music player, called Zune. By conflicts, we mean with the alliances Micrsoft itself has already struck (scroll down) to push competing ideas, such as Urge, etc.

Let me break this down: Zune - the devices, the platform, and the store/service - will compete with everyone from Apple (of course) to Creative Technologies, iRiver, Samsung, Archos, Rhapsody, Napster, Yahoo Music and anyone dumb enough to buy into Microsoft's visions of Urge, Media Player, PlayForSure etc.

Here is the Mercury News' piece on Zune.

Microsoft should be able to use the xbox 360 as leverage to get the zune going. They went up against Sony on thier own turf, now it's apple's turn.
