Google finally to launch GBuy, to challenge eBay's PayPal

googlebuy.jpg
Google is now expected to launch its online payment system GBuy at the end of the month. It comes after months of speculation. Here is the Mercury News story by our colleague Elise Ackerman:

...the payment service would provide Google with data that would enable the Mountain View company to more accurately target ads to people who are ready to make a purchase.

By tracking online shoppers from the moment they start looking for something to buy to the moment they reach into their virtual wallets, Google will be able to figure out both the most propitious purchasing time and the most promising products...

"By tracking online shoppers from the moment they start looking for something to buy to the moment they reach into their virtual wallets"

that is kind of creepy..when what I buy and when I buy etc., gets tracked. Isn't there something called privacy left on Internet at all :)

I think this will be great for the open market place. I feel there email service which had raised concerns about privacy is the best out there. Now with there payment system it brings a choice I'm sure that will be popular and much better than paypal. I have used Paypal in the past and have never been a fan of their company. People with privacy concerns just don't understand the conpect behind this system. There should be no concerns with the type of keyword ads that google uses with these payments.

I am all for competition. Paypal has gotten fat from doing not much more than transferring money, not to mention that they hold on to it for a minimum of 3 days, thus taking advantage of the float. And 3% per transaction is outrageously high when the actual cost to the company is next to 0.
So i say - all hail Google, and may the best man win!
