A record $502 million in venture capital was invested in green technology companies during Q4 2005 in North America, according to the Cleantech Venture Network (downloads press release).

This investment represented a 59.8% increase over Q4 2004.

And if you believe this group's numbers, the $1.6 billion invested last year surpassed the entire amount invested in semiconductors, traditionally one of the mainstays of venture investing!

And Silicon Valley, of course, is home to many of the companies reaping the investments, and home to venture capital firms making them.
